Test and Treat Campaign in South Africa

Contestants were put through auditions in August and were tasked with composing and then performing their own song about HIV/AIDS culminating in the Superstar Hip Hop finals.

The day started on a high note as hundreds of music lovers streamed in to share in the festivities and show support for this great initiative. The concert kicked off to an explosive start as popular hip-hop artist and MC, Ntsika, welcomed the top ten finalists onto stage. The crowd cheered in excitement as the singers tried to outdo their competitors in an attempt to walk away with a fabulous cash prize.

Out of the 10 hopefuls who performed, the winners finally selected by the panel of judges were:

Adding to the excitement of the day was a star studded line up with some of South Africa’s most popular hip hop artists including Zulu Boy, Zakwe, LUS, Skye, Ntsika and Moja Pooh. Fans wasted no time jumping onto their feet and singing along to their favourite songs.

The MEC for Health in KZN, Dr Dlomo was also given the opportunity to address the crowd about the importance of Testing and Treatment.

In the backdrop of the singing contest, HIV/AIDS testing was offered free of charge to the public as part of AHF’s ‘Test & Treat’ campaign. Proving to be popular throughout the day, queues of people lined up outside the testing stations, waiting to take advantage of this free service and got tested with trained counsellors present.
